PSA: The number one mistake I see with new guys and coax connectors

I mean, maybe it's just me but I keep seeing the same thing over and over. Guys will strip the coax, put the connector on, and just give it a couple of crimps with the tool. They don't check if the center conductor is flush with the end of the connector. I had a job in the Maplewood area last month where a rookie did this on a whole house install. Every single outlet had a signal loss of like 3 dB because the pin was recessed. The customer called back two days later with pixelation on all channels. It took me an hour to redo all eight fittings. How do you train your new hires to actually look at the connector before they crimp it down for good?

How do you not look at the thing you just made? It's like building a model and not checking if the wheels are on. My old boss called it the "hope and a prayer" crimp. You just hope the pin is there and pray it works. Spoiler: it never does.

Exactly. That's how you end up with termites in the walls because someone didn't check the seal.
