Shoutout to the guy at the supply house who said to always carry a spare coax barrel
Heard him telling a new guy this while I was grabbing parts in Phoenix. He said a simple barrel connector saved his whole day when a wall plate fitting broke. I thought it was overkill until my own fitting cracked on a job yesterday. Had one in my bag and fixed it in two minutes. What other small parts do you guys always keep on hand?

Remember those little plastic outlet spacers? My buddy laughed at me for keeping a handful in my glove box. Then he called me from a job last winter, mad because a wonky old box was sunk too deep and the cover plate wouldn't catch. He had to drive all the way back to the shop. I just smiled and asked if he needed me to drop some spacers by.

Wasn't that a box extension ring, not just a spacer?

That's the kind of small item that seems useless until it's the ONLY thing holding up a job. Read a forum post once where a guy used a stack of pennies in a pinch, but the plastic spacers are the right tool. Always pays to have a few on hand.
