That whole afternoon in the crawlspace near Greenville...

Had a job last Tuesday in Greenville, an old ranch house with a low crawlspace, maybe 18 inches of clearance. The homeowner swore the drop was right under the living room, but I spent two hours digging through fiberglass and old mouse nests before I found it behind a heating duct. My knees were shot and I had about four new scrapes, but the cable run was actually clean once I got in there, no water damage or anything. I got the new line pulled in about 45 minutes after that, and the customer tipped me 40 bucks in cash which never happens. Made me think about how much time we waste trusting the first guess when just getting eyes on the space saves the headache. Has anyone else had a job where the easy part was the hard part and the hard part ended up being simple once you found the right angle?

That first guess thing is exactly it. People will swear up and down they know where something is, and half the time they're pointing at a spot that makes zero sense once you actually get in there. The worst is when you trust them and dig around for an hour before you finally say screw it and look yourself. You gotta treat every claim like it's just a hint, not the answer. That 45 minute recovery after two hours of wasted time proves your point better than anything.
