Tried a Klein scout with a tone tracer on a dead run yesterday
I had a line in a downtown Denver office building that was completely dead. Usually I just swap ends and hope for the best, but I grabbed the Klein VDV Scout Pro and the tone tracer for once. After about 20 minutes of tracing, I found a staple driven right through the jacket under a drop ceiling tile. Never woulda spotted it without the tone, so I'm sold on using that combo for all dead runs now. Any of you guys actually use the tone feature regular or just me?

Heard a story from my buddy Mike who had a similar thing happen. He was tracing a dead line in an old house and found a nail poking through the cable behind some drywall, totally hidden.

Right there with you, I'm the type who usually just reterminates and prays, probably explains why I've got a collection of scrap cable that could double as modern art.
