Vent: 2 hours wasted because I trusted the toner instead of my ears
Last Tuesday I was chasing a dead pair on a 3rd floor run in an old office building, kept following the toner signal to a port that tested fine. Turns out the toner was bleeding through to an adjacent pair, and the actual break was 40 feet back behind a dropped ceiling. My partner finally walked the line with a cheap probe and found it in 10 minutes. Anyone else stopped using toners on bundled runs after something like this?

Man, I feel your pain on that one. Same thing happened to me last month on a 50-pair bundle, the toner sang clear as day on a jack that tested perfect, but it was bleeding from a pair two over that had a nick in the jacket. I ended up clipping the whole bundle apart before I found the real split, took me three hours and a lot of bad words. Now if it's a tight bundle, I always do a quick continuity test first before I trust the tone at all. That cheap probe trick your partner used is honestly the move, sometimes the old school way just wins. Is that something you guys do now as a rule, or was it just a one off thing?
