Vent: A coworker passing out from heat on a roof shows how our health gets ignored for deadlines.

They didn't even give the guy water breaks? That's insane. I've seen crews up there with no shade, no cooling vests, just getting pushed to hurry up. Management always acts like the heat isn't a real threat until someone drops. It's so messed up that a deadline is worth more than a person not passing out.

This stuff happens way too often in construction. My own heat tolerance is so bad I'd probably pass out just watching them work. They really treat people like machines until one breaks down.

Yeah, "until someone drops" is exactly it. I saw a guy on a roofing job last summer just sit down on the shingles and start crying from the heat, and the foreman yelled at him to get up. They had a cooler full of water but you'd get chewed out for stopping to drink it. It's like they forget we're made of flesh and blood, not steel.
