Vent: My coworker swore by the velcro strap method for cable bundles

So Dave, the old timer on my crew, kept telling me to stop using zip ties and just use velcro straps for everything. Said it'd save me time on reworks. I thought he was being lazy, but after 3 callbacks last month where I had to cut zip ties to add a new line, I finally tried his way. Now I'm kicking myself for being stubborn. Any of you guys had a boss or coworker push a tip that turned out to be right?

Learned this one the hard way on a server rack job. Zip ties feel faster but velcro straps pay off big when you have to trace a bad cable three years later. I keep a roll of the thin stuff in my bag for small bundles and a wider roll for bigger groups of wires.

Going velcro only works if you actually label both ends too though. A bundle of grey cables with matching grey straps still requires a toner if you didn't tag them. If you're consistent with the labels from day one, the strap material almost doesn't matter.
