Watched a crew in Raleigh run fiber through an old storm drain last week

They pulled 800 feet of cable through a 4 inch pipe that was half full of mud and it worked perfectly. Has anyone else tried this instead of trenching?

damn that's actually impressive they pulled it off in nasty mud like that. gotta respect the hustle when you find a way to make old infrastructure work instead of tearing everything up.

Did you catch that documentary about the Roman aqueducts that some towns still use for their water supply? It's wild how they built those things to last and people just adapt them for modern use. I read somewhere that in some parts of France they're still using sections of a 2000 year old bridge for local roads, just with some patchwork and reinforcement. Makes you wonder what they'd think if they saw us trying to manage all this old concrete and rusted pipes instead of the stonework they left behind.
