Accidentally used a rubber squeegee to clean a sensor and it worked?

I was out of sensor swabs for my Canon 5D Mark III last week so I grabbed a clean rubber squeegee from the darkroom, and somehow it picked up the dust without leaving streaks, has anyone else tried something weird like that in a pinch?

My buddy Dave once cleaned his microphone grill with a butter knife and a piece of duct tape because he forgot his pop filter at home. He said it worked better than the real thing for like three takes before he snagged the mesh and ruined it. I guess when you're in a bind, weird stuff just kinda works. Did the squeegee leave any weird residue on your sensor?
