Back in '08, I dropped a tiny screw from a Leica M6 into a shag carpet in a client's living room in Akron.
After an hour of searching with a magnet and a flashlight, I found it wedged under the leg of their coffee table, which taught me to always bring a small parts tray, even for house calls, and I'm curious what other weird places you've all found lost components.

That Akron shag carpet must have been a real monster.

Wait, is he talking about the carpet or the dog? That shag probably ate more than just a lens cap. I had a rug like that once and it was a black hole for loose change and hair ties. You'd never find anything in that mess without a full on search party. Bet the dog thought it was doing him a favor by putting it in the water.

A buddy of mine lost a lens cap in his own backyard. We looked for ages. Turned out his dog had picked it up and dropped it into his water bowl. It was just sitting there at the bottom, totally clean. He only found it when he went to change the water.
