Bought a 'new' shutter assembly that was just cleaned up junk

Lost about $80 on a part that looked good in the photos but had worn-out timing gears. The seller said it was from a working camera, but it was just polished to look new. Anyone know a reliable source for actual Nikon FM2 parts?

My buddy got burned the same way on a lens mount. Looked mint, but the threads were totally stripped. He just hunts for "for parts" listings now.

Yeah, that "polished to look new" thing is such a scam. I mean, they clean off the old grease and grime so it shines in the photos, but all the real wear is still there. Happened to me with an F3 mirror box, the gears were totally shot. For FM2 stuff, I've had good luck just buying whole broken cameras for parts. You can sometimes find them cheap if the meter is dead or something.
