Heard a counter guy in Sacramento blame a busted SD slot on the customer "shoving it in wrong"

I was picking up a lens at a shop on J Street last month and listened to him hand back a camera with a bent card slot, saying the owner must have forced the card. I pulled the card door on a similar body later and the pins sat right behind a flimsy little flap with no guide, so you can bend them with almost no force at all. Does anyone here have a trick for straightening bent SD pins, or do you just quote a board swap?
