Is it finally time to stop using canned air for sensor cleaning? Let's talk.

I saw three posts this week where folks blasted a sensor with canned air and then had to send the camera out for oil streaks. I've been repairing for about 12 years now, and I still get units in my shop in Portland where the owner insists canned air is fine. I get that it's quick and cheap, but I've seen propellant residue bake onto shutters more times than I can count. On the flip side, a proper sensor brush kit runs around $40 and takes the same two minutes if you do it right. Am I being too rigid here, or has anyone else found a safe middle ground for dust puffs that I haven't tried?
