Old timer told me to stop cleaning focus rings with lighter fluid and I almost didn't listen
Was in Louisville last Tuesday picking up a Nikon F3 from a guy who's been fixing glass for 40 years. He watched me grab a can of lighter fluid to free up a stiff focus ring and said, "Son, that's how you turn a $200 repair into a $600 one when the grease turns to glue in six months." He showed me his method, just a drop of naphtha on a cloth and working the ring slow by hand, and I'll be honest, it felt like it took forever. But the F3 came back smoother than anything I've done with the fast route, and now I'm second guessing every shortcut I've picked up.
Any of you still reach for lighter fluid on old glass or have you all switched to something else?
