Pro tip: That guy at the Portland swap meet who said all old cameras are junk was wrong.
I was at the big camera swap in Portland last fall. This guy, maybe 60, was trying to sell a box of old SLRs for parts. He told me, 'These are all junk. Just scrap metal. Nobody fixes them anymore.' He had a Nikon F2 in there with a stuck mirror. I offered him 40 bucks for it. He took it, laughing like I was a fool. Spent an afternoon on it. The mirror box just needed a good clean and a tiny bit of lube. Works perfect now. It's my main shooter. That guy gave up on gear that just needed a little care. How many good cameras get tossed because someone thinks they're beyond saving? Ever pulled a 'junk' camera back from the dead?
