Stop blaming shutter shock for all your blurry photos

I see so many posts on here blaming shutter shock for soft images, especially with mirrorless cameras. But in my experience, 9 times out of 10 it's actually just bad technique or a dirty lens. I had a customer bring in a Sony A7III last month convinced the shutter was busted, and I found a smudge on the rear element that took 30 seconds to clean. Has anyone else noticed this trend, or am I just getting lucky with the bodies I work on?

Three months ago my neighbor spent two weeks troubleshooting why his car was shaking at highway speeds, replaced the tires and got an alignment, only to find a half-eaten bag of potato chips stuck in the wheel well. It's the same deal with photography gear, people want to blame the fancy expensive part instead of checking the obvious cheap stuff first. I swear half the time the real problem is just impatience or not looking close enough at what's right in front of you.

Is your neighbor still trying to figure out why there's a half-eaten bag of chips in his car, @ross.william? At least he didn't try upgrading to a V8 engine before checking for snacks.
