That old Yashica Electro I fixed last month taught me a hard lesson about light seals
The owner brought it in complaining about fogged edges on every frame... said it was fine a year ago. I pulled the back off and the foam was just gone, turned to sticky black dust. Replaced it with fresh sheet material cut to fit, took about an hour total. Now the shots are crystal clear. How often do you guys actually check light seals on a routine service, or do you wait for the customer to notice the problem?

Honestly, that sticky dust is the worst. It gets everywhere. But your question makes me wonder, how do you even price that check? Do you just eat the cost of a quick inspection to build good will, or is it a separate line item on the service ticket? I feel like a lot of shops just skip it until it's a problem.

Wow, that's a classic failure! So do you think it's worth checking seals on EVERY older camera that comes in, even if the customer doesn't mention an issue? Seems like it could save a lot of headaches later.

You mean like how I check for rust on every old car? Yeah, that's just free work.
