Unpopular opinion: ultrasonic cleaners ruined more lenses for me than they ever saved
Everyone on here swears by them, but I stopped using mine after an 80 dollar flea market Canon 50mm came out of the tank with the coating clouded on the rear element. I was at my bench in Tucson, trying to rush a customer job before closing, and figured a 3 minute cycle would be faster than a teardown. It wasn't the cleaner's fault, it was mine for not checking that the element was cemented, but that lesson cost me a lens and a customer. Now I do it by hand with swabs and give every job the time it needs, so what is your cutoff for when a part goes in the tank versus when it never does?
Man, I don't know, clouding one lens doesn't mean the whole tool is junk! Sounds like the real issue was rushing a cemented element, not the ultrasonic itself. I still throw metal parts and non-cemented stuff in mine all the time and never had a problem.
