Was dead set against ultrasonic cleaners until last month
I always thought ultrasonic cleaners were overpriced gadgets that couldn't do much a toothbrush and some solvent couldn't handle. Then I picked up a dirty Canon AE-1 shutter assembly that had years of gunk baked into the blades. After 10 minutes in a borrowed cleaner at a shop in Portland, the blades moved like new. Has anyone else had a specific part that changed their mind on these things?

My first thought was actually the same as yours, I figured they were just a gimmick. But then I tried one on a stuck aperture ring from an old Pentax Spotmatic. The thing had been frozen for years, I'd tried heat and penetrating oil and everything. After a few cycles in the cleaner, it was spinning freely again. It's weird how the ultrasonic waves can get into those tiny gaps where nothing else can reach. I still think they're expensive for what they are, but for certain stuff they really do work better than anything else.
