Why is nobody warning people about those cheap plastic lens spanner wrenches on Amazon?
I spent $25 on a set that slipped and gouged a filter thread on a customer's vintage 50mm, so has anyone found a decent brand that actually holds up?

My $30 set scratched a lens barrel too.

Oh man, that's the worst... those things are basically just fancy looking stress toys. They have the grip strength of a wet noodle. I learned the hard way too, on a cheap filter, thank god. It's like they're designed to fail at the exact moment you apply any real pressure. You'd think for twenty-five bucks they could at least use a metal that doesn't bend if you look at it funny.

The real problem is the lack of any standard for how much force they can take. A good tool would have a clear failure point before it damages the lens. These just flex and slip unpredictably. You're basically trusting a random factory's guess on what "tight enough" means. It makes the whole job a gamble, even if you're being careful.
