A guy at Mount Rainier told me my stove was cheating, and it's been bugging me for 6 months
So I was at Cougar Rock campground back in June, boiling water for coffee at like 6am, and this older guy from the next site wanders over and watches my little canister stove for a minute. Then he says, 'That thing is cheating. You should be building a fire.' I tried to be friendly and pointed out it was 38 degrees and everything was soaked from rain the night before, and he just shook his head and walked off. Here's the thing though. I camp about 15 weekends a year and I've built maybe 4 fires total, because half the time there's a burn ban or the wood is wet or I just want coffee before my hands work. I don't think there's some rule that suffering makes you a real camper. But part of me still wonders if he had a point and I'm just too lazy to admit it. Where do you all land on this, is a stove legit camp cooking or am I missing something?
