A stranger at Big Sur told me to ditch my tent and sleep under the stars

I was setting up camp at Pfeiffer Beach last summer when this older guy walked over and said I was missing the whole point of being there. He pointed at the clear sky and told me to just throw a sleeping bag on the ground and look up instead of hiding in nylon. Do you guys ever skip the tent and just go straight ground sleeping when the weather is good?

That older guy was right, I tried sleeping under the stars once and woke up with a slug on my face." Honestly, the ground is way too lumpy for me, I'll take my nylon cave any day.
