Boiling water at 9,000 feet took me 45 minutes to get right

Everyone says it's simple, just wait for bubbles, but at Echo Lake the water barely simmered and my coffee was lukewarm garbage. Took a whole afternoon and three failed pots before I found the trick is a lid and way more fuel than the bag says. Anyone else figure this out the hard way?
