Cheaped out on a $50 sleeping pad vs. the $180 one I really wanted
Picked the budget inflatable pad for my trip to Shenandoah last fall and woke up with my hip digging into the ground by 3 AM - has anyone actually found a cheap sleeping pad that holds up past the first season?

That "discomfort builds character" line from @richardharris is funny but man, I have to disagree after that Shenandoah trip. A little discomfort is one thing, but waking up every two hours to shift your weight because you're basically sleeping on compressed dirt is a whole different kind of character building I want no part of. The real trick I found is that foam pads in the $60-80 range actually last a full season if you're not picky about pack weight. I'd rather carry a half pound extra and actually get sleep than save $30 and be miserable. Has anyone tried stacking a CCF pad under a cheap inflatable, does that actually help with the hip dig?

Why would you drop $180 on something you lay on for a few hours when a $50 pad works fine if you just put some leaves under your tent? A little discomfort builds character, doesn't it?
