Figured out my camp coffee tasted bad because of one dumb mistake I made for 6 seasons
I always wondered why my pour over at the campsite tasted muddy and bitter compared to home. Turned out I was boiling the water way too hard on my little PocketRocket and pouring it right away, basically scorching the grounds. Last trip out to Shenandoah I let it sit for about 90 seconds after the boil and the difference was night and day, smooth cup with no burnt taste at all. Six seasons of lousy coffee because I was too impatient to wait for the water to cool a bit. Does anyone else time their pour or just eyeball it?
