Finally hiked the whole Crest Trail loop near Silverton after bailing on it twice
Three years ago I tried this 12 mile loop outside Silverton and turned around a mile in because my boots were rubbing bad. Last month I went back and made it to the halfway saddle before my knee started talking to me. Last Saturday I finished the whole thing, took me 7 hours and 40 minutes, and I ate a sad smashed PB&J at the top looking at the lake. The thing that got me through was finally ditching the heavy boots for trail runners and carrying way less water than I thought I needed. What is the one gear swap that fixed a hike you kept failing at?
