Guy at the trailhead asked if I was lost, stayed for an hour

I was unloading my pack near the Snoqualmie pass trailhead and this older fella just walks up, totally serious, and asks if I knew where I was going. We ended up chatting about bear bags for 45 minutes and he showed me a knot trick that saved my breakfast from a raccoon that same trip... has anyone else had a random stranger turn into an accidental camp mentor?
