Lost track of time sketching pine cones by the lake...

Last weekend, I was out camping at Blue Ridge and found a bunch of pine cones near the lake. I brought my sketchbook with me, so I sat down to draw them... just for fun. The way the light hit the scales made me see details I never noticed before. I got so focused that I didn't hear my friends calling me for hours. My hand got cramped, but it was worth it to capture those little patterns. Now I'm thinking of doing more nature sketches on future trips. Has anyone else tried drawing or painting while camping? I'd love some advice.

My buddy tried sketching trees on a camping trip last year. He said the light kept changing so fast it was hard to keep up, but he loved the challenge. His page was a mess of lines, but it totally captured the feeling of the forest.

Yeah, that focus you get is the best part... when everything else fades away. I sketch leaves sometimes and the textures just hook you. Makes the whole trip feel more special.
