PSA: checking the forecast for the trailhead town instead of my own zip code saved my whole trip to Grayson Highlands
Two weekends back I packed for a warm sunny hike because my town was 75 and clear, but the ranger at Grayson Highlands told me they had gotten 2 inches of rain that week and the ridgeline was sitting in fog and 48 degrees. I threw in my rain shell and fleece at the truck almost as a joke, and thank god I did because the whole loop was mud and mist with zero views. Does anyone else check the weather for the mountain town instead of home, or is it just me that almost learned this the hard way?
