Spent $35 on a cheap camp stove from Walmart. It died on day 2 of a 4 day trip.

I was in a rush before a trip to the Adirondacks last month and grabbed one of those little butane stoves for like $35. Worked fine the first night making coffee and heating soup. Second night the regulator just stopped letting gas through. No way to fix it in the woods. Ended up eating cold granola bars for two days. Anyone else had a bargain stove fail on them mid trip?

Oh man, "cold granola bars for two days" is like my idea of camping hell (and I've had some rough trips). I'm picturing you sitting there, watching your buddy's fancy stove boil water, just chewing on a dry bar and pretending it's a gourmet meal. $35 for a stove that dies faster than my phone battery is basically paying for a lesson in regret (and hunger). At least Walmart's return policy is decent, so you can go get your money back and maybe splurge on one that doesn't give up on you halfway through.

Man I used to think cheap gear was the way to go, like you could get almost the same thing for half the price and it'd be fine. But then I had this little propane stove fail on me in the Boundary Waters, same exact thing. Regulator just gave up. I was stuck trying to light a fire with wet wood for two days. That cold granola bar life is rough. Now I'm the opposite. I'd rather save up and buy something that's been tested, even if it's a mid range brand. The price difference is nothing compared to the headache of being hungry in the woods.
