Tried sleeping on a foam pad instead of an air mattress for a 3-night trip in the Smokies...
Woke up every morning feeling like I'd actually rested instead of rolling off a deflating raft. Anyone else ditch the inflatable gear for something simpler?

Wait what kind of foam pad were you using? I've tried a cheap yoga mat before and woke up sore AF, so I'm curious if there's a specific brand or thickness that actually works.

The one I grabbed was like a 2 inch thick camp pad from Walmart... it was only like 25 bucks but honestly it was the thickness more than the brand that helped. You need at least an inch and a half of padding if you're sleeping on concrete or a hard floor, otherwise you're just compressing it down to nothing and feeling every bump. Did you try doubling up on yoga mats or putting anything soft under your sleeping bag for extra cushion?

Ngl, I was totally team "yoga mat is enough" until I tried a real camp pad and woke up pain free lol.
