Update: my uncle in Duluth says 20 degree bags are a scam, and now I'm not sure what to believe
Talked to my uncle Dale up in Duluth last weekend and he went off about how he's slept in a 20 degree bag down to 15 without a problem for 12 years, so the ratings are basically made up. Half of me thinks he's right and we all just pack way more bag than we need, but the other half remembers shivering through a 28 degree night in the Porcupine Mountains in a bag rated for 20. So is it skill, or is Dale just built different? Want to hear from folks who've actually tested their bags past the rating.
