A tent I bought at a garage sale in Boise had a tag that said 1978, and it still beat my $220 one in the rain
I grabbed this old canvas tent at a garage sale in Boise for $15, mostly because the guy said his dad used it for elk hunting. The tag inside said it was made in 1978. Last weekend it rained hard for about 6 hours straight and I stayed totally dry, while my $220 tent from two years ago leaked at the seams. Turns out the old canvas just breathes better and the guy had resealed it a bunch of times over the years. Now I'm wondering if I should just waterproof old canvas tents instead of buying new ones. Has anyone else gone back to canvas after getting soaked in a modern tent?
