Got burned by a cheap tarp last season in Oregon, so I switched to a silnylon one and it didn't leak a drop in 3 days of rain

That $20 blue tarp from the hardware store tore at the grommets on the second night and I woke up soaked, but after dropping $60 on a silnylon tarp from a gear shop in Portland it held up fine through a storm that dumped over 2 inches - has anyone else had better luck with silnylon over poly tarps?

Brought a silnylon tarp backpacking once and it doubled as a great sled when we got hit with unexpected snow above treeline. Kept everything dry for a week but I spent half the trip slip-sliding around camp.

A week? You didn't get sick of sleeping on what felt like a slip-n-slide?
