I was hanging my bear bag wrong for 12 trips until a ranger at Yosemite showed me

I always thought I knew how to do the PCT method. I watched videos, practiced at home. But last month at Yosemite, a ranger stopped me and asked if I wanted my food stolen. I laughed. Then he pointed out my bag was too close to the trunk, maybe 6 feet instead of 10. He showed me how a raccoon could basically jump from the tree to the bag. I felt like an idiot. All those nights I slept fine thinking I was safe. Has anyone else had a ranger correct something you thought you had down perfect?
