Is a $120 camping stove worth it or is a $30 one just as good?

I bought a Jetboil for $120 after my cheap stove failed in the rain last summer, and it boiled water in 2 minutes flat. But my buddy swears by his $30 butane stove that's lasted 5 years. Which side are you on for reliability without breaking the bank?

Man, it's just boiling water. Are we really overthinking a camp stove this much?

Oh, you really think it's just about boiling water? Tell me, have you ever been stuck with a stove that takes 20 minutes to bring a pot to a simmer when it's windy and cold and you just want coffee? I've been there. The difference between a cheap single-burner and a good dual-fuel stove is the difference between a relaxing morning and a frustrating fight with your gear. When you're out for a week and every minute of fuel efficiency counts, the details matter. Plus, the way the flame adjusts for simmering versus high heat can make or break a meal after a long hike. Have you ever had your dinner burn because the stove has no low setting?
