Cold beans from the can is a solid backup. I had a regulator fail last year and just used a small backpacking stove as a backup. It saved the trip and now I always pack one.

Man, that's rough. Did you at least have a backup plan for cooking? I'd probably just end up eating cold beans straight from the can.
