My buddy in Bend totally changed my mind about ultralight tents

We were setting up camp after a long hike and he pointed out how my old 6-pound tent was taking up half my pack, saying 'You're carrying a hotel room for one.' He loaned me his 2-person trekking pole tent for the rest of the trip, and it felt like I was carrying nothing. Has anyone else made a big switch like that after a single comment?

Switched to trail runners after a friend called my boots "ankle coffins." Never looked back.

It's funny how a single sharp comment can change your whole view on something. We get stuck doing things the "right" way because it's tradition, not because it works. That ankle coffin line cuts right through all the old hiking advice people just repeat. Sometimes you need that outside nudge to break from the herd and find what actually works for you.

Wait, your old tent was SIX pounds? How did you even stand up straight?
