Spent 3 hours fighting a tent pole splint in my garage because the repair sleeve kept sliding down the ferrule
I was fixing a bent aluminum pole on my REI Half Dome 2 with a $9 splint kit and every time I slid the sleeve over the break it would creep down past the ferrule once I flexed the pole. Turns out I had the sleeve on backwards and the tapered end needed to face the tip, which took me three YouTube videos from a guy in Boise to figure out. Does anyone else keep a spare pole section in their pack instead of messing with splints on trail?

Three hours for a nine buck fix seems like a lot of fuss for something you could just toss.
