That moment I realized my sleeping bag was packed wrong for 5 years

I was shivering at 2am in the Smokies last fall, and some guy in the next site told me my bag was compressed too tight in the stuff sack and that's why it lost its loft. Has anyone else had a gear epiphany from a stranger's random advice?

Funny how a complete stranger can see something you've been missing for years. That's kinda like life in general though - we get so stuck in our routines we don't even notice the cracks. Like I had a buddy who drove his truck for a decade with the tires underinflated until a tire shop guy just casually mentioned it. Bet your sleeping bag felt like a whole new piece of gear after that fix. Sometimes it takes an outside set of eyes to spot the obvious stuff we've just learned to tolerate.
