Watched a guy at Big Bend ditch his fancy stove

Saw someone at Big Bend last month boil water with just a twig fire and a cheap steel cup, no fuel canister to haul. Made me question every review I read about titanium cooksets being essential, so what's the lightest setup you've actually trusted?
