Coffee chat with a founder from Kitchener last month changed my thinking on hiring

I met a guy who runs a small AI firm in Kitchener and he told me he stopped hiring people with CS degrees. Said he started hiring philosophy majors instead because they ask better questions. Has anyone else tried hiring outside the usual talent pool for a Canadian startup?

Totally - hired a history grad last year and best decision ever.

So you're saying she turned out to be a solid hire right off the bat, or did it take her a few months to find her footing? I'm curious what specific work skills she picked up from a history degree that actually mattered day to day. Was it more the research and sorting through old records, or the writing and putting arguments together?
