Just hit 50 signups on my Vancouver-based app after 3 months of nothing

I launched a hiring tool for local trades back in February and got zero traction until I added a free tier last month. Now I'm seeing 5-10 new users a week and actual referrals - has anyone else seen a big shift just from changing their pricing?

Honestly I was skeptical about the whole free tier thing for a long time. I run a small tutoring platform in Toronto and thought charging even a little bit would filter out tirekickers. Finally caved and tried a free basic plan back in April and now Im getting around 20 new signups a month versus maybe 2 before. It definitely changed my mind about giving stuff away for free - people seem to want to test drive before committing.

Are you really getting 20 actual paying customers out of those free signups though? I've seen a lot of people brag about big signup numbers but when you look closer they're just people who never convert. I run a small service too and gave away a free version for three months. Got a ton of signups but maybe 5% actually paid later. It was more work supporting all those free users than it was worth.
