Lost our only paying client at 2am because I forgot to renew the SSL cert
Two months ago I was half asleep on my couch in Kitchener when my phone started buzzing. Our one paying client, a dental office in Guelph, sent a screenshot of a big red browser warning on their booking page. I had let the SSL cert expire, and it went out 14 hours earlier. I fixed it in about 20 minutes with a free cert and a quick renew, but the damage was done, their front desk had been telling patients to just call in for a day. We gave them a month free, which was $400 off our tiny $800 monthly bill, and honestly that hurt. I set three calendar reminders this time and wrote the renewal date on a sticky note on my monitor. Do you all use some kind of uptime or cert monitor, or do you just watch it manually like me?
