PSA: Cold emailing VCs from a .edu address got me 3 meetings in a week
Been hustling on my SaaS for 6 months in Toronto and getting nowhere with cold outreach. Switched my email to my old uni address (UWaterloo) and suddenly partners actually opened the message. Maybe it's the alumni network thing or just trust factor but it worked way better than my startup email. Anyone else try this or find another trick that cut through the noise?

@richard_mason missed the point entirely. 3 more meetings than a regular email gets you.

is using your old school email really that big of a deal though? I mean sure maybe a .edu gets past spam filters but it sounds like you're banking on some alumni halo effect that might not mean much to a partner who never even went to your school. i get that it got some opens but 3 meetings in a week still seems like a tiny sample size, could just be random timing. seems like a stretch to call it a serious tactic when you barely got any real traction out of it.
