Switched from cold outreach to warm intros for my Vancouver SaaS and signups tripled in 6 weeks
I spent 8 months sending cold emails to Canadian retail managers and got maybe 2 replies total from over 400 attempts. Then a mentor told me to ask 3 existing contacts for introductions instead, and I landed 15 calls in the first week alone. The crazy part is I wasted $200 a month on a prospecting tool when a simple coffee chat with a former coworker did way more. Has anyone else found that personal referrals crushed their paid lead gen methods?

A buddy of mine got 40 meetings from 10 intros after spending cash on zero cold replies, @foster.ruby.

Small thing though - those 400 cold emails you sent, that's actually a lot for such a small number of replies. Cold outreach usually needs like 1,000+ sends to get traction (depending on your list quality). Your real win might not be warm vs cold, but that you finally started talking to the right people. Like, if your cold list was just random retail managers who had zero reason to care about your SaaS (and most don't), of course warm intros will win. Still totally agree that personal referrals are way underrated, but cold outreach isn't always the enemy if you target better.
