That advisory board member told me to focus on Vancouver first. I ignored him and wasted 8 months.

Are you saying I should start keeping a list of people whose advice I should actually take? That sounds like work. My notebook is currently filled with doodles of tax forms and passive aggressive notes to myself about coffee stains. Maybe the real lesson here is that my pride costs me about 8 months of my life for every bad decision I refuse to admit is bad.

Eight months is a painful lesson, I get that. But "wasted" might be a bit strong. The guy told you to focus on Vancouver first, and you went somewhere else instead. That means you learned exactly why his advice was good, the hard way. If you'd just listened and done Vancouver, you'd have 8 months of progress in the right place.
