DAE else get warned about mice chewing car wiring by a storage lot neighbor?
I rent a spot in a covered lot out in Fresno and last week the guy two bays over, Ray, stopped me while I was backing in. He popped his hood and showed me where mice had chewed through a harness on his truck over the winter, which cost him around $480 to fix. He told me he never had a problem until he started parking near the back fence where the weeds grow, and now he sets traps and checks under the hood every couple weeks. That got me thinking because my spot is also near that fence line and I've never once looked. I grabbed a flashlight and checked mine right there, and sure enough I found a little nest of shredded material sitting on the battery tray. I cleaned it out and stuffed some peppermint-soaked cotton balls in the corners, though I'm not sure how much that really helps. It really got me that his mechanic warned him it happens all the time to cars sitting in storage, the spot stays put but the mice don't. Has anyone had luck keeping them out with screens or anything, or is trapping really the only thing that works?
