I used to store my car under a tarp on the street, now I rent a 10x20 unit 4 miles away and I feel silly
For about 2 years I kept my old Camry under a cheap blue tarp on the street outside my apartment in Fresno, and I thought I was being smart saving the money. The tarp rubbed the paint raw in two spots, a cat had kittens under it in April, and one morning a neighbor knocked to tell me the wind had flipped the tarp onto a parked truck. After the third storm I gave up and rented a 10x20 unit at a place off Shaw Ave for $95 a month, which felt dumb at first because it's just an old sedan. But the car now starts on the first try, no more moldy smell, and I don't spend 20 minutes tying down rope before every weather report. The funny part is I drove past that same street spot yesterday and saw someone else wrestling a tarp, and I almost pulled over to warn them. How do you all deal with the guilt of paying monthly for a car you barely drive?
