Blew a deadline because my manager kept adding last-minute requests

I was at my desk last Thursday with 2 hours left before a major client deliverable, and my manager walked over to drop three new tasks on me that weren't in the scope. I tried to push back but she said it was 'just small tweaks' and now the whole project got delayed and I look bad. Has anyone else had to deal with a boss who doesn't understand how long changes actually take?

The "just small tweaks" thing is usually code for hours of extra work. Maybe next time get her to write down exactly how long she thinks each tweak will take so there's proof when they blow up the timeline.

Man it's wild how that same energy shows up everywhere too. Like when someone says "just a quick favor" or "real quick question" - you know you're about to lose the next hour of your day.
